Looks like just another doomsday cult to me. I've seen guys like these as far back as 1996 or so, at which time all of them (well, practically all) wailed about how the world was going to end on midnight, New Year's Eve, 1999. It didn't. So a lot of the old pages (though not including Rapture Ready, which has miraculously stayed online for almost 20 years now) disappeared from the Internet, and a new generation of idiots making up new, randomized dates on which the Earth would end started showing up instead. The new day for the "Big KABOOM/Judgement/Alien Invasion/whatever" seems to be sometime in 2012, so I'm surprised at these guys for being a year early in their estimations. But, hey! At least they're original, right? Wink

I wonder what'll happen to the page (not to mention the elaborate delusions) these idiots have constructed for themselves once the promised day rolls around without anything happening (as always)? Most likely, the apocalypse will just move ahead a few months because someone misread the scriptures or their collective prayers staved it off. Man, congitive dissonance can't be an easy thing to live with.

Interesting stuff.  I have heard some things related to that date for some reason.  It may be one of those astronomical things or something.  I wonder what he will do when it comes and goes with nary a whimper?

I used to be an avid short-wave radio listener, and Family Radio, which is behind this movement, used to have very pleasant, middle of the road, non-judgemental programming. I wonder what made these people flip the script?

The Wikipedia article on these wackos is rather... interesting. From the article in question:

Quote:
In Camping's latest publication,"We are Almost There!", he states that certain Biblical passages point unquestionably to May 21, 2011 as the date of "Rapture", and October 21, 2011 as the end of the world. Either way, the radio station will be shut down on May 21, 2011.

Gee... Am I the only one who thinks of the word "Kool Aid" for some reason..? Tongue

Also, what the fuck is the deal with all these Christians who seemingly want the world to end? Sure is a healthy, non-delusional religion y'all got going here, fellas.

Hi.

This evening I’ll be reading from a book I just finished, and since a lot of it is about the future I’m going to start more or less on the last page. And tell you about my grandmother.

Now she was a Southern Baptist Holy Roller and she had a very clear idea about the future, and of how the world would end:

("In fire.")

In fire.

("Like in Revelations.")

Like in Revelations.

And when I was ten my grandmother told me the world would end in a year. So I spent the whole year praying and reading the Bible and alienating all my friends and relatives.

And finally the big day came.

And absolutely nothing happened.

Just another day.

At least one religious person has a theory that the Rapture has happened, but no one was admitted to heaven. No one was good enough.

I haven't seen the exact quote, but it sounds like a neat theory, I like it!
