I personally subscribe to the theory that several different artists have taken it upon themselves to create and plant new tiles, since the tiles have today been spotted in many different US cities.

I think so. I can't recall which one just at the moment, however.

I recently discovered this site. Apparently, some guys have discovered more about the tiles and are making a documentary about them (and about the tiler). I recognize a lot of my own obsession for Dec in their work. The study of outsider art (and artists) is a truly fascinating topic.

(And I really do mean mysterious - this is one movie I'm willing to pay money to see!)

The tiles typically contain some variation of this:

TOYNBEE IDEA IN MOVIE 2001 RESURRECT DEAD ON PLANET JUPITER

It actually makes sense! Toynbee felt that humanity was in decline and wanted to resurrect the dead on the planet Jupiter, he did have some contact with movie director Stanley Kubrick, and the mysterious last scene of 2001 actually makes a lot of sense interpreted in the light of the Toynbee tiles.
